Tonight: Beautiful and functional colanders. Plus …

“I will talk to anyone about my favorite colanders. Including you.”

Before writer Rose Maura Lorre purchased these, colanders were just an underappreciated kitchen tool that she rarely thought about. “But,” she says, “these go above and beyond their straightforward call of duty.”

They’re sleek and have draining holes so tiny that they can trap even the smallest food scraps, like little bits of garlic skin after Rose strains her homemade broth. They’re pretty, too. Rose uses them to serve chips, popcorn, fruit, and undressed salad at casual meals and parties.

On the topic of simple yet life-changing kitchen upgrades: This silicone strainer makes cleaning food bits out of your sink supremely easy. All it takes is a few taps against the side of your trash can to dislodge the gunk. And? It’s dishwasher safe, so there’s no need to scrub it by hand. (Bless.)

Your daily deal: Our favorite olive oil

A bottle of Graza Sizzle Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Connie Park/NYT Wirecutter

This olive oil, the best all-purpose option we tried, is fragrant and grassy with a good amount of pungency and a sharp bitterness. One tester said it gave her “summer vegetable garden vibes.” We think it pairs nicely with roasted vegetables, bread, and pasta.

One last thing: A cute and useful splatterware sheet pan

This colorful, sturdy enamelware pan is great for roasting sides, reheating leftovers, and serving snacks. It even looks great as a catchall tray when placed by the front door or on a coffee table.

It makes a great gift, too→
