I’ve been trying to grow tomatoes from seed this year and it’s been a funny learning curve. The first batch got leggy because I didn’t have enough light, so I moved them to a south window. Now they’re finally getting their true leaves and I’m cautiously optimistic. I might try basil next to companion plant. Have you had any luck with container gardening? The soil mix I used seems to drain too fast. I added some coconut coir and perlite, but maybe I need more vermiculite. Honestly it’s a puzzle. Anyway, I’d love to hear what works for you. I also started some pepper seeds and they’re taking forever to germinate. Might be the temperature—my apartment stays around 68°F. I put a heat mat under them last week and already see tiny sprouts. Fingers crossed for a good harvest this fall.

I just finished listening to that podcast about urban beekeeping and it was fascinating. They talked about how bees navigate using UV light and how city hives actually have higher survival rates than rural ones because of fewer pesticides. It made me think about starting a small garden on my balcony with native flowers. The host mentioned that even small patches can make a difference. I’m going to look into getting a bee house for solitary bees since they don’t sting. Do you know if they need any special maintenance? I’ll probably start with a simple planter of lavender and bee balm. I’m excited to see what shows up. Also, I found a local beekeeping meetup that offers beginner workshops—could be fun if you want to join. Let me know if you’re interested!
