You asked about the community garden layout so here is what we decided. We ended up going with raised beds along the perimeter and a central composting area. The soil mix was three parts topsoil to one part compost with some perlite mixed in for drainage. We planted tomatoes along the south fence where they get the most sun and herbs near the entrance so people can grab them easily. The irrigation system took longer than expected because we had to run the lines under the path. Next weekend we are planning to add a small seating area with benches and a shade structure. If you want to help out we could really use extra hands for the mulching. Let me know if you want me to save you a spot. The weather has been cooperating nicely and the seedlings are already showing good growth.

One thing we learned was to stagger the planting times so everything does not ripen at once. We have a schedule posted on the shed door. Feel free to come by any Saturday morning to see the progress.

You were wondering about the book club schedule for next month so here is the update. We decided to move the meeting to the third Tuesday instead of the second because several members had conflicts. We are reading that mystery novel about the antique shop owner that everyone recommended. I finished it last week and the ending caught me off guard. We will meet at my place this time since Sarah is hosting the following month. I will make a batch of chili and some cornbread and if anyone wants to bring a side dish or dessert that would be great. We typically start around 6:30 but people usually show up closer to 7. Let me know if you need a copy of the book still.

I also wanted to mention that we are thinking about picking a non-fiction title for the following month to mix things up. A few people suggested a travel memoir so we might go that direction. I will send out a poll closer to the meeting date so everyone can weigh in.
