Apply for active substance renewal by the deadline to keep products on the GB market.
Under the GB Biocidal Products Regulation (GB BPR), active substance approvals will expire unless a renewal application is submitted to HSE at least 550 days before their expiry date.
The 550-day deadline is coming up for the following active substance/product type combinations under GB BPR:
27 August 2026
- α-cyano-4-fluoro-3-phenoxybenzyl 3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate (cyfluthrin) (CAS 68359-37-5 EC 269-855-7) in product type 18
- citric acid (CAS 77-92-9 EC 201-069-1) in product type 2
Any person, company or task force/consortium can support an active substance/product type combination for renewal – it doesn’t have to be the original supporter.

If any of these active substance/product type combinations are important to you, consider contacting your supplier to let them know.
If a renewal application is not submitted for the above active substance/product type combinations under GB BPR, the approvals will expire. This means the active substances will no longer be able to be used in biocidal products of the relevant product types in GB.
In addition articles treated with such products will no longer be able to be placed on the market in GB.
Biocidal products must be phased off the GB market.
The active substance/product type combinations listed are due to expire under GB BPR on the following date:
30 November 2026
- 1-[[2-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-4-propyl-1,3-dioxolan-2-yl]methyl]-1H-1,2,4-triazole (propiconazole) (CAS 60207-90-1 EC 262-104-4) in product type 7
- 5-chloro-2-(4-chlorphenoxy)phenol (DCPP) (CAS 3380-30-1 EC 429-290-0) in product types 1, 2 and 4
- potassium (E,E)-hexa-2,4-dienoate (potassium sorbate) (CAS 24634-61-5 EC 246-376-1) in product type 8
Once the approvals expire, the active substances will no longer be able to be used in biocidal products of the relevant product types in GB.
In addition articles treated with such products will no longer be able to be placed on the market in GB.
If you hold an affected GB BPR product authorisation or Control of Pesticides Regulations (COPR) product approval, we will contact you about cancelling or revoking your authorisation or approval. You will have an opportunity to submit comments or additional information and we will take account of these when finalising our decision.

Stakeholders should note that biocides are in scope of the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement currently being negotiated between the UK and the EU. Once negotiations on the SPS Agreement have concluded, HSE will communicate further on any implications the Agreement has for the sector.
