But first: go team

here's the plan

You worked hard enough this week. Let us plan your weekend…

  1. 1.

Quick, grab your baby-doll dress. Olivia Rodrigo just dropped You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love — which, yes, the Queen of Heartbreak knows is a mouthful. On the other side of what she calls her first “big-girl” relationship, the album’s 13 songs trace a love story that falls apart, including the debut single “Drop Dead” (you can guess who the “Gemini” is), tracks inspired by a certain Sex and the City couple, and the album’s “thesis statement.” Good 4 her.

  2. 2.

As anyone who has ever tried to pull off the effortlessly cool dress-and-sneaker combo knows, the line between giving and giving up is fine. Thankfully, these looks will help you nail it every time.

  3. 3.

Decluttered everything and your home still feels packed? You’re probably overlooking this very specific, very sneaky type of garbage. RIP to all those empty candle jars.

  4. 4.

Believe it or not, if we had a nickel for every time a TV show based on a BookTok-beloved novel featured a teen romance, a resort town, and two brothers, we’d have two nickels. Adapted from a Carley Fortune bestseller, Prime Video’s Every Year After tells the story of Percy (Sadie Soverall) and Sam (Matt Cornett) over the course of six summers as they go from childhood friends to first loves to strangers after…a choice tears them apart. Years later, when Percy returns to idyllic Barry’s Bay for Sam’s mother’s funeral, the two are forced to reckon with what went wrong. Cousins Beach, it’s been nice.

    Every Year After
  5. 5.

The FIFA World Cup has kicked off — which means we’re all into men’s soccer (sorry, football) again. Tonight, tune in to Fox to watch Team USA play its first match against Team Paraguay, which is returning to the international tournament after a 16-year absence. Will Katy Perry perform “Dark Horse” during the US opening ceremony? (Honestly, fitting.) Will any of the players break one or more of the new rules? Will we suddenly be Captain America fans? (No, not the Chris Evans kind.) We’ll be watching from the couch with our limited-edition Nestlé Toll House cookies.

PS: Skimm HQ is off next Friday to observe Juneteenth, so the next edition of Weekend Non-Negotiables will be back in your inbox on June 26.

You somehow snag a seat in the New York Knicks Celebrity Row. Who would you want next to you?

Happy (almost) weekend. Tomorrow I’ll be jockeying for a stool at my local sports bar and praying the Knicks pull this off (I might also do my own saging ceremony to help things along). Here’s what else I’ll be getting into this weekend:
