So I finally decided to tackle that mountain trail we talked about last spring. I packed what I thought was a light bag, filled with water, snacks, and a map. About two hours in, I realized my "light" bag was anything but. My shoulders were screaming, and I stopped every fifteen minutes pretending to admire the view, but really I was just catching my breath. The funniest part was when a very unimpressed squirrel sat on a rock right next to me, staring, as if I was personally offending it by huffing and puffing so loudly. It followed me for about half a mile, probably hoping I would drop my granola bar. I didn't. I won that battle of wills. Made it to the summit, though. The view was absolutely worth the sore shoulders and judgmental squirrel. We should definitely do it again. Maybe I'll actually train this time, or at least find a smaller bag. Hope you're doing well!
Let me know what you think about the trail map I found.

You asked for an update on my sourdough starter. Well, I named him Doughy McDougherson. And he is high maintenance. I followed a tutorial, fed him religiously, kept him warm. Day five, he was bubbly and smelled like a dream. Day seven, I attempted my first loaf. It came out looking like a deflated football. The inside was gummy and the crust was so hard, I almost chipped a tooth. My partner politely said it was 'rustic.' I tried again yesterday, and something clicked! It actually rose, has a decent crumb, and a nice crunchy crust. I'm bringing it over this weekend if you promise to be kind. The learning curve is real, but now I understand why people talk about their starters like they are family pets. Let me know if you want a piece of Doughy's offspring. I can share the starter! Talk soon.
