Scotland's ‘Tartan Army' takes victory lap through Boston, marches to Fenway Park

The streets of Boston were flooded with kilts and bagpipes Sunday as Scotland’s “Tartan Army” marched to Fenway Park — a victory lap after the team won its first World Cup game at Boston Stadium the night before.

About 5,000 Scottish supporters made their way from Evans Way Park to Fenway for the Red Sox game, taking over Lansdowne Street to celebrate their 1-0 victory over Haiti.

Kilts were welcomed, and beer was bottomless.

3 people injured in shooting near South End playground, Boston police say

Three people were shot near a park in Boston’s South End neighborhood on Sunday evening.

Boston police say they received a call around 7:38 p.m. for a shooting in the vicinity of a playground in the area of 88 West Newton Street.

A crime scene was established, and all three victims were taken to area hospitals. Police initially said one of the victims had injuries that were considered life-threatening, but have since said all three are listed in stable condition and are expected to survive.

2 sisters dead following Bellingham house fire

Two sisters have died after an early-morning house fire in Bellingham, Massachusetts, a fire official says.

Around 12:40 a.m., fire officials said they received several 911 calls reporting a building fire at 14 Temi Road.

When they arrived, firefighters found heavy flames in the rear of the building and the roof. Two sisters were rescued from the house by firefighters and taken to an area hospital. They have since died, officials said.

Man dies in apparent drowning at popular NH pond

A drowning investigation is underway in Swanzey, New Hampshire, where a 42-year-old man died after being pulled from a popular pond there on Sunday afternoon.

New Hampshire State Police say marine patrol officers were notified of a reported drowning at Wilson Pond around 3:36 p.m. after Fredy Gavilanes Jami went underwater while swimming with three friends near the shoreline.

Gavilanes Jami, of Ecuador, reportedly entered an area with a steep drop-off and went under without anyone noticing, according to police. When the other swimmers realized he was missing, they began calling for help. Bystanders contacted 911 and attempted to assist, but they were unable to bring Gavilanes Jami to shore.

Hometown MVP: Lowell Catholic student puts his whole heart into sports

While he’s not winning titles or breaking records in track, one young man in Lowell, Massachusetts, is inspiring many.

When he was born, no one thought Stephen Smay would be able to do what he’s doing now. But defying the odds is what makes him special.

“He always pushes himself. I never have to tell him to keep going because he is so self-motivated.” said Lydia Margolian, Stephen’s track coach and math teacher.

Temps in the 70s and 80s this week, storms possible Thursday

Monday brings a much more comfortable feel across southern New England as skies clear through the morning. Sunshine returns, low humidity and afternoon temperatures settle into the upper 70s and lower 80s, right around or just a touch above the normal high of 76 degrees.

It will be a great day to get outside. The pleasant stretch continues Tuesday with seasonable temperatures, low humidity, and plenty of sunshine.

The forecast stays quiet through the middle of the week before becoming a bit more active late week.
