Brad Bird's "Iron Giant" is now recognized as a beloved animation classic, but it's easy to forget that it was essentially dumped into theaters by a flailing Warner Bros. animation division and abandoned after the first weekend. Bird's latest film, "Ray Gunn," may be history repeating itself, thanks to two warring studios. "Ray Gunn" is Bird's ambitious take on a retro-alternate 1930s where jet packs, flying cars and, yes, ray guns, are everyday objects. It's the kind of cinematic experience that lends itself to the biggest screen possible, which is why Bird and his team advocated for it to take the two-week Imax slot that had previously been allocated to Greta Gerwig's "Narnia: The Magician's Nephew," which got pushed back to 2027. Instead, as our Drew Taylor reports exclusively, Netflix opted to go with David Fincher's untitled "Once Upon a Time" sequel starring Brad Pitt reprising his Oscar-winning role of Cliff Booth.
