Hey a,
It's one of those days. You're just not "feeling it."
But this time, you're not gonna give up and call it a day.
This time, you're gonna pull up this email and try what I'm about to show you.
So keep reading, because this is probably the fastest way I know to break a creative block.
You've probably heard cookie-cutter advice like "take a break" or "try meditation," and while that stuff isn't wrong, you actually WANT to keep producing.
You're just stuck.
So let's get tactical.
What does "being stuck" actually mean?
It's just a signal that your brain is going down a path that doesn't lead where you want.
And the easiest way out is to take a hard turn and try the exact opposite.
I call this the Creative 180.
Here's exactly how it works:
Whatever you've been doing all session, you now do the exact opposite.
A few examples:
You've been programming MIDI drums? Pull audio one-shots and perc loops onto the timeline instead.
You've stayed in the box the whole time? Switch the medium and sit down at an instrument.
Your track is 140 bpm? Hear what it sounds like at 90. The result might surprise you.
Record and resample it, then bring it back into your original 140 project if you want.
Minor → major.
Digital → analog.
Fast → slow.
You get the idea.
Here's my pro tip for never getting stuck again:
Create a text file on your desktop right now and call it "open in case of creative emergency."
Paste this email in as a starting point.
Then keep adding little hacks you notice work for YOU specifically.
Next time you're stuck, I promise it won't last longer than five minutes.
I'm curious: what works for you when you're stuck? Hit reply and let me know.
Your music matters. Make it count.
Philip
PS: This works great for the small daily blocks. But if you feel stuck on a bigger level, like you can't seem to finish anything or you're missing a process that actually holds up session after session, that's a different problem and no quick trick fixes it. That's the kind of thing we work through together in our mentorship program. If you want to see whether it's a fit, book a free discovery call here.
