A popular hiking and biking area near Golden was closed Monday morning because of “aggressive bear activity” in the area, according to Jefferson County officials.

One person was found dead inside the home, and a dog was rescued and taken to an animal hospital, Aurora Fire Rescue officials said.

“One of the reasons it failed in the past is that there were no specific projects proposed,” Aurora Councilman Curtis Gardner said of past tax hikes. “People want to know where their money is going.”
