Glorious Sun! Ready to get your heart ripped out at the movies on October 23? The first trailer for Klara and the Sun just dropped. Directed by Taika Waititi and based on Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro’s 2021 novel, the film stars Jenna Ortega as Klara, a solar-powered, older-model “Artificial Friend” (read: robot) who’s been waiting in a store for a family to pick her.

The cast is stacked, too, with Amy Adams, Steve Buscemi, and Natasha Lyonne. Early reactions are split: Some are just glad to see Ortega in something that isn’t horror, while book readers—already bracing to be emotionally wrecked all over again—say the trailer looks way jollier than Ishiguro’s beautiful gut punch of a novel.
