I think the layout we discussed last week needs a few adjustments before we break ground. The soil test results showed higher clay content on the north end so those beds will need additional compost and sand to improve drainage. I measured the space again and we have about twelve feet of clearance along the fence line which gives us room for three four-by-four beds with adequate pathways between them. The herb spiral should go near the kitchen entrance for easy access while cooking. I also checked the rainfall data for the past five years and we should plan for supplemental watering at least twice a week during July and August. The native wildflower strip along the back edge will help attract pollinators and beneficial insects which should reduce pest pressure on the vegetables. Let me know if you want to adjust the planting schedule before we order seeds.

AAA Roadside Assistance • Courtesy Program

I reviewed the sign-up sheet from the community center and we have enough people to cover all four shifts but the afternoon slots are still light. We could ask the high school service club to take the two to four window as a group which would give us consistent coverage without relying on individual volunteers. The equipment rental company confirmed delivery for eight thirty in the morning so the early crew can start setup right away. I already sent out the safety guidelines to everyone who registered and printed extra copies for the day-of check-in table. We should also designate a lead for each zone so volunteers have a clear point of contact if questions come up. The weather forecast looks favorable with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid seventies which should make for comfortable working conditions throughout the day.
