I think your suggestion about rotating the crops each season is smart. We did tomatoes in the south bed last year and they did well but the soil needs a break there. Maybe put the beans and squash in that spot this spring and move the tomatoes to the east side where the drainage is better. Also we should add some compost about two weeks before planting to give the nutrients time to settle. The marigolds along the edge helped with pests so lets keep those. For the neighborhood gathering I think Saturday afternoon works well since most people are free then. We could set up tables in the cul-de-sac and ask everyone to bring a dish. I can handle the drinks and paper goods. Maybe we should also arrange some simple games for the kids like sack races or a scavenger hunt. Let me know if you want me to reach out to the homeowners association about blocking off the street. I think we need at least two weeks notice for that.
