I really think you should try the blue trail at Mount Charleston instead of the regular one. It has better elevation gain and the views are much more rewarding once you get past the first mile. The switchbacks can be a bit challenging but nothing too extreme if you pace yourself. I went last weekend and the wildflowers were still blooming near the ridge. Just make sure you bring plenty of water because there is no shade for the last stretch. Also starting early helps avoid the afternoon crowds. Let me know if you want to borrow my trekking poles they are really helpful on the descent. The trailhead parking fills up fast so aim to arrive before seven. There is a nice spot about halfway with a small stream where you can rest. Overall it is one of my favorite hikes in the area and I think you will really enjoy it.

I finally tried that slow-roasted tomato sauce recipe you mentioned and it turned out great. I added a bit more garlic than called for and used fresh basil from the garden instead of dried. The key was letting it simmer for almost three hours on low heat until it thickened naturally. I served it over pappardelle with some grated pecorino on top. Next time I might try adding a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat. Let me know if you have any other recipes you would recommend. The fresh pasta from that little shop on Main Street made a big difference too. I will definitely be making this again soon.
