Yeah, I finally got around to refinishing that old dresser I picked up at the flea market. It took way longer than I expected, mostly because stripping the old varnish was a nightmare. I used a chemical stripper first, then had to sand down a bunch of detailed edges by hand. I decided to paint it a deep sage green instead of staining it. I think it turned out pretty well, though there are a few spots where the brush strokes show. I put new crystal knobs on it and it looks totally different. It is actually in my bedroom now holding all my sweaters. I might try a nightstand next if I can find a good candidate. Let me know if you want the link to the paint color I used. My next project might be reupholstering a small armchair I found on the side of the road. It has great bones but the fabric is hideous. I am thinking a nice linen texture in a cream color. I will probably watch a ton of tutorials before I actually start cutting anything.

So I finally tried making sourdough from scratch using that starter my neighbor gave me. The first loaf was a total brick, but the second one actually had a decent crumb and crust. I did not realize how much of a difference the hydration level makes. The starter itself is pretty fun to maintain, like a little pet that you have to feed regularly. I named mine Dough-othy. I have been experimenting with adding different types of flour, like spelt and rye, to the feedings. It gives it a really complex flavor. I baked a batch of sourdough discard crackers last weekend and they were amazing. I used rosemary and sea salt on top. My kitchen is constantly covered in flour now, but it smells incredible. I think the next frontier is bagels. I found a recipe that looks straightforward. Anyway, just thought I would share my latest obsession. Have you tried any new recipes lately?
