Yeah, I totally get what you mean about the trail being packed last weekend. We went up early, around 6 AM, and it was still pretty crowded by the time we got to the ridge. The view was worth it though, the fog was just lifting off the valley and the light was incredible. Saw a family of deer crossing the path a few hundred yards ahead. Didn't get a great photo because my phone battery was already at 10% from using the map app. Note to self: bring the portable charger next time. The descent was tough on the knees, but we took it slow. Made it down just before the rain started. Honestly, it was the best way to spend a Saturday. We're thinking of trying the northern loop next month, it's supposed to be less crowded and has a couple of stream crossings which sound fun. Let me know if you want to join. iKfl0lnlxvKBvYJ

Oh man, the baking experiment was a mixed bag. The first loaf was a total brick, honestly felt like it weighed five pounds. I think the starter wasn't active enough. I kept it on the counter for a few more days feeding it regularly, and it finally started bubbling up nicely. The second attempt was much better, it had a good rise and a nice crust. The crumb was a bit dense still, but the flavor was spot on, that tangy sourdough taste. I ended up making grilled cheese with it and it was perfect. My kitchen still smells like flour and yeast though. I've been watching a bunch of tutorials online and I think I need to work on my shaping technique. It's a fun hobby but definitely requires patience. Next up is trying a whole wheat version.
