July 15, 2026
Hello FCPS Families and Staff,
Due to the National Weather Service heat advisory in effect for Fairfax County, all outdoor activities scheduled on Fairfax County public schools’ fields and courts from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, are canceled, including:
- Recess.
- Co-curricular or extracurricular activities.
- Recreation programs and community use by outside groups not affiliated with FCPS.
FCPS athletic team practices and competitions may continue. Decisions will be made by athletic trainers who closely monitor conditions to ensure safety. More information can be found on the Extracurricular Activity during Extreme Hot and Humid Weather Conditions page of our website. Teams will communicate any changes directly to families.
Employees whose job function requires outdoor work (e.g., landscaping, groundskeeping, warehousing, general facilities, etc.) are to complete the remainder of their workday indoors. Alternate work activities that can be completed include required training, indoor maintenance, etc.
Extreme heat resources, including the locations of cooling centers and safety tips, can be found on the Fairfax County website.
In addition, the FCPS Summer Food Service Program continues at locations across the county, providing meals to all children at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis. Locations are listed on the FCPS website.
We will continue to monitor conditions and will provide additional updates as needed.
Take good care,

Dr. Michelle C. Reid Superintendent Fairfax County Public Schools
