NEW! TEXT MESSAGE REFILL REMINDER!

Starting August 4, Veterans will receive a text message reminder* when it’s time to refill your prescription. (Similar to examples above.) 

The message prompts you to refill your prescription using one of two options. This notification is sent out 14 days before you are set to run out of the medication.

You can opt out of the service by replying “STOP” to the message or by speaking to a Pharmacy team member.

*This feature will begin automatically for all patients who have a valid cell phone number on file with the VA.

Emergency Department Has Moved!

Our new emergency department (ED) is open and seeing patients. If you are visiting our ED, please remember to go to the new location on the East side of the building. The new ED has a dedicated parking lot for patients. See the section of the map indicated in red above.

Step inside the newly designed ED at the George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center, as our Chief of Emergency Medicine and Nurse Manager guide you through a space intentionally crafted for comfort, privacy, and healing. 

Toxic Exposure

Did you know that all Veterans enrolled in VA healthcare can receive a toxic exposure screening at an upcoming appointment or sooner by contacting a toxic exposure screening navigator?

It’s a quick 5-10 minute screening to identify any potential exposures to toxins during your military service. Depending on your response, you may be connected to support and resources, including a review by your primary care team.

Potential exposures could include:

• Open burn pits/airborne hazards
• Gulf War-related exposures
• Agent Orange
• Radiation
• Camp Lejeune contaminated water exposure
• Other exposures

To schedule a toxic exposure screening, enrolled Veterans can send a message to their VA care team through the VA: Health and Benefits app or My HealtheVet, or call VA Salt Lake City Health Care System Environmental Registry Coordinator at 801-582-1565, ext. 3146.

Farmers Market:

Summer is here—Farmers Market season has arrived! Join us to connect with your community, enjoy live music, and explore a variety of new and familiar vendors and food trucks. Looking for fresh produce? Remember, several programs are available to help you enhance your nutrition and quality of life.

Starting July 29^th- September 2

Where: The George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center, 500 Foothill Drive, Salt Lake City, Building 8. Picnic area outside the Canteen

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) cards are accepted.

DoubleUp Program: Stretch your SNAP dollars and receive twice the amount of fresh produce.

Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program: Veterans aged 60 and older who meet income guidelines can receive free fresh produce.
