Dear Travel Fan, Each year, our biggest project is the 52 Places to Go list, which is full of inspiration for you — and for us. With 2026 a little more than half over, we decided to check in on the spots we’ve visited so far, and let you know what we found. The World Cup was supposed to be a boon for North American travel. Throughout the tournament we tracked whether it was delivering, and this week our reporter Christine Chung rolled back the tape to tell us who were the big winners and losers on the travel front. Each summer for the last few years we’ve brought you news of heat waves in Europe. This week we take a look at whether it’s time to abandon the dream of a summer trip to cities like Paris, Rome and even London, as the temperatures continue to rise. Following the government shutdowns that snarled security lines at many airports, the T.S.A. said it was hoping to privatize screening at more airports. This week, three airports said they have signed on, and the unions for the existing T.S.A. agents are pushing back. Travel can be difficult for people with autism or for people with children who are neurodiverse. We’ve got tips to make it easier. One of the hottest trends on social media is travelers posting videos tracking ambitious, cross-continental voyages, often through countries like Iran and Russia, which can carry significant risks for travelers. The videos can garner millions of views, but experts warn it’s only a matter of time before things go seriously wrong. Our reporter Ryley Ober does a deep dive on what motivates these travelers and the consequences they might face. Sometimes, you just want to be inspired, and we hear you — so we brought you a roundup of some of the most beautiful botanical gardens in U.S. cities and a guide to spending 36 Hours along the Oregon Coast. Or, perhaps, your inspiration comes from challenging yourself. In New York’s Adirondacks, a writer tackled the via ferrata course in Ausable Chasm to get over his fear of heights — and lived to tell the tale. Wishing you safe and happy travels,
