NBC News asked readers about their summer travel plans and got dozens of responses. Some said they weren’t curtailing travel, just paying more and cutting back elsewhere, while others said they were scrapping their plans or taking a trip closer to home.

Meanwhile, the travel and hospitality industries have responded to rising costs by offering more services catering to the rich, reflecting a widening gap in the U.S. between the wealthy and those who are struggling to make ends meet.
