Prime Minister Mark Carney has called three by-elections for late August in federal ridings in British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec.
In a news release Sunday, the Prime Minister announced that by-elections will be held Aug. 31 in North Vancouver–Capilano, the Toronto riding of Beaches–East York and Chicoutimi–Le Fjord in Quebec’s Saguenay region.
The Liberals will need to win at least one of the three seats to hold their majority in the House of Commons.
The by-elections are being held to replace two former Liberal MPs, Jonathan Wilkinson and Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, and former Conservative MP Richard Martel, recently named to the Senate.
The Liberals have recently named their candidates for all three seats, including Mr. Carney’s former deputy chief of staff, Braeden Caley, in the B.C. riding.
