We’re watching a storm system coming together today that will slowly lumber across Southern New England through the end of the week.

These types of summertime low pressure systems are typically weak but still can produce intense downpours in isolated spots.

The focus for the heaviest rain – and longest duration – is across eastern Massachusetts and Connecticut.

A jury heard opening statements Monday in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts, mom accused of killing her three children in 2023.

Prosecutors argue that Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, planned the killings and bears full responsibility for their deaths. Clancy’s lawyer, Kevin Reddington, argues that at the time of the killings she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, a rare mental illness linked to the stress, sleep deprivation and hormonal changes that follow childbirth.

A man accused of punching a police officer unconscious during a series of fights outside a nightclub in Lowell, Massachusetts, was ordered held on $75,000 bond Monday.

Lowell police said officers responded early Sunday after multiple fights broke out as a large crowd exited Tescobar on Middlesex Street.

According to prosecutors, officers tried to restrain 20-year-old Malakai Linton of Lowell after the disturbance escalated. They said two Taser deployments had no effect before an officer fired a third Taser probe.

A driver accused of intentionally hitting and killing a man riding a scooter in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood has been charged with second-degree murder.

Jhonny Ruiz Soto, 21, is accused in a crash on Saturday at the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Seaver Street.

Police were called to the intersection around 2:28 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck. When they arrived, the victim was lying in the road. He was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The steady hum of running water is giving way to the pulse of progress in Natick, Massachusetts.

The banks of the Charles River are set to receive a new soundtrack as the town tears its aging, decaying dam apart and allows the river to run its natural course for the first time in decades.

The future of the South Natick Dam has long been the subject of debate, with some favoring the idea of repairing the structure. Town leaders ultimately chose to remove it.

Authorities said Monday night that an “active incident” involving a person armed with a gun outside the police station in Mansfield, Massachusetts, has been resolved.

Police had asked the public to avoid the area Monday evening.

Law enforcement officials set up a perimeter around the Mansfield Police Department. The armed person “is believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis,” a Mansfield police spokesperson said earlier.
