Hey,
What's the best move after a Google algorithm update drops?
Nothing. At least, not right away.
Most of what tanks during a roll-out isn't the update itself. It's the panicked changes people make trying to get ahead of it. Here's a calmer, more effective way to handle it:
- Let the storm pass first. Google's own guidance says roll-outs can take 1-3 weeks, and they recommend waiting at least a week after completion before analyzing anything.
- Isolate the affected pages. Filter Search Console by clicks lost to find what's actually declining. Then check the SERP for those keywords: Who's taking your spot, and what do their pages have that yours don't?
- Look for patterns before
you touch anything. Are the losing pages sharing a topic, a template, or a keyword?
