Dear dupa, Every time we write, talk and host events about China biopharma, it’s some of our most read and watched journalism. I believe it’s the most important story for biotech over the next half-decade. But I also believe it deserves a deeper and more nuanced public discussion than it has been getting. That’s why we’re launching a set of conversations and debates about the rise of China biotech and what it means for the US and the world. Our first event will be on the evening of Aug. 6, in Boston. I’m excited to talk with opinionated industry leaders like Roivant CEO Matt Gline and Strand Therapeutics CEO Jacob Becraft. We're keeping the room small and senior, so please RSVP only if you're certain you can attend. The China Biotech Debate In-person only | Limited spots available We’ll talk about how China’s rise is changing the meaning of differentiated meaning, and how it’s forcing biotechs, investors and policy makers to rethink how science turns into therapies and companies. We’ll talk about the broader geopolitical context, and how other areas of industrial competition like cars and semiconductors work as analogies — and where they fail. And we’ll talk about the real risks to US biosecurity, and dismantle some false narratives. (In early fall, we’ll keep the conversation going in Washington, with a conversation about policy, science and investing — details to come.) I hope to see you there.
