The Senate voted along party lines to approve President Donald Trump’s choice for the next director of national intelligence, Jay Clayton.

Clayton will be inheriting a much smaller agency after the office’s workforce was cut in a series of firings in recent weeks and months. Just hours before the Senate vote, acting intelligence chief Bill Pulte announced what he called a fifth round of job cuts.
