The Old Corner Bookstore hosted a community of Boston readers and became the headquarters of the mid-19th century publishing business of Ticknor & Fields. Using new industrial book-making technologies, Ticknor & Fields mass-produced the works of American literary icons such as Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
