Our first time in Verona
Next week, Ngai Yeung is headed out to Epic’s annual Users Group Meeting at the electronic health record giant’s headquarters in Verona, Wisconsin.
Last year, the meeting generated a ton of speculation and reporting around what Epic was going to do about AI scribing (and Epic did go on to release AI assistants that can transcribe and draft clinical notes). This year, we weren’t going to pass up a chance to attend.
We’ll be watching to see what new announcements come out, as well as trying to get a sense of where Epic’s leadership stands after a few key departures over the summer. As Epic continues to roll out AI tools, including ones for doctors and patients as well as those focused on billing, we’re looking at how its expansion is affecting everyone else — from what hospitals still want to buy, to how investors and startups are responding.
But in general, we’re watching to see how a company like Epic continues to confront an industry that’s seeing widespread AI adoption and finding new ways to use the data stored within EHRs.
I’m also very much looking forward to hearing more about what it’s like to be at Epic’s campus itself — some day I’ll get up there!
Are you attending? Be sure to say hi to Ngai if you see her, or message her to meet up.
