Note from Los Angeles VA Regional Office Assistant Director, Jamie Cannon
Women’s Equality Day is recognized on August 26, 2026. Women’s Equality Day marks the certification of the 19th Amendment in 1920—a historic step toward ensuring women’s voices are heard. Today, this observance reminds us that equality requires ongoing commitment, advocacy, and recognition of women’s contributions in every field, including military service and the Veteran community. Across our nation, women continue to lead, innovate, and break new ground. They bring vital perspectives to public service, research, education, health care, business, and national security. Women’s Equality Day is both a celebration of progress made and a call to continue advancing equity for future generations. Active‑duty enlisted forces include 182,388 women, representing 17.1% of all enlisted personnel. Women represent 19.7% of active‑duty officers. More than 2 million women Veterans live in the United States today. This has increased by 6% since 2000. As we honor Women’s Equality Day, VA reaffirms its commitment to gender equity—including access to comprehensive health care, mental health support, reproductive health services, Women’s Health Clinics, and programs designed specifically for women Veterans.

Be Aware of Fake VA Phone Numbers
A single mistyped or misheard digit can route your call to a fraudulent operation rather than the VA. Verify VA phone numbers online.
