Hi Bob Novak,

Thursday's class ran long, in a good way. If you could not make it live, the recording is up now.

Dr. Jen Pfleghaar sat down with Debbi Barber, co-founder of Vitali Skincare, to sort out the two ingredients that keep turning up on labels without much explanation: GHK-Cu copper peptides, and exosomes derived from stem cells.

One has a research trail running back to 1973. The other arrived so recently that most of the brands selling it are still measuring it by the wrong yardstick.

If you have ever stood in front of a shelf trying to work out whether a serum is worth what it costs, this is the hour that answers it.

What they got into:

  • Why the number on the front of the box is not the number that matters. GHK-Cu is one of the most heavily studied molecules in all of skincare, and what separates a copper peptide that earns its place from one that just lists the ingredient is concentration and how the formula around it is built.
  • What an exosome really is, and why counting them is the wrong test. The question that tells you something is what they are carrying, which almost nobody on a label wants to discuss.
  • Why the two work better paired than alone. Debbi puts it simply: one side carries the instruction, the other supplies what the instruction calls for. Used together they support skin's own renewal process more completely than either does on its own.
  • A realistic timeline. Skin renews on its own schedule, and Dr. Jen is direct about what that means for when you should expect to notice anything at all.

Debbi put in 37 years in marketing, retired, and then unretired to build this company after a peptide researcher handed her GHK-Cu for the crepey skin on her own arms. What that background produces in the session is candor about how much of the category is oversold, which is not usually what you get from a founder discussing her own shelf.
