A new report from HELP Chairman Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) details the extent to which three makers of the abortion pill mifepristone have followed federal guidelines about how the drug can be dispensed and to whom. One of the conclusions is that prescribers, especially online ones, may be able to skirt some of the requirements. The report also suggests that rule changes made under the Obama administration have resulted in less transparency around non-fatal safety cases.

Still, the report lacked a smoking gun about the broader safety of mifepristone. While data suggests the drug is safe, conservatives have sought to limit its use. The FDA has said it's reviewing mifepristone's safety, though some lawmakers have grown frustrated that it's taken so long.
