Lecture Summary:
Dr. John I. Gallin’s career, almost entirely at the NIH, was exemplified by his dogged pursuit of the immune defects of phagocytes. His endless fascination with their movement, killing and diversity was infectious, as was his commitment to the patients afflicted by defects in them. He launched and nurtured many careers and made seminal contributions to understanding the paradigms of neutrophil function. Dr. Gallin propelled the comprehensive understanding of chronic granulomatous disease, Job’s syndrome, leukocyte adhesion deficiency and specific granule deficiency, to name only a few. We will examine some of the overlapping and unique features of some of these hallmark diseases.
The lecture will be broadcast on videocast on NIH Videocast and archived for future viewing.
