VA promotes “Don’t Wait — Reach Out” during Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System will host several Suicide Prevention Awareness events during September

In recognition of National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) will host a series of events throughout September to raise awareness, provide resources and help Veterans and community members learn how to support individuals experiencing suicidal ideation.

TVHS’ Suicide Prevention team will host Lethal Means Safety Day at three locations Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time. Staff will provide mental health education and resources on safely securing potentially lethal items:

Also in September, TVHS Chaplain Services will host a Suicide Prevention Awareness Walk at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center, Sept. 25. The event will begin at noon and feature various VA programs, live music, and opening remarks from TVHS executive leaders and mental health and wellness experts.
