People in the community came out to the Dayton National Cemetery Wednesday for Airman First Class Michael L. Fain's final salute. The Veteran had no known next of kin. He served in the Air Force from 1980-1984 and was from Sidney, Ohio. Thanks to those who came to honor his service.
Thanks to AMVETS #24 of Ohio for having a pizza party Saturday for Veterans in the domiciliary, building 410. The pizza party was in building 305 where Veterans also played bingo and received some giveaways.
Construction started last week for the expanded parking lot. This is the grass area on the corner of Missouri and Minnesota, across from building 315 (Sim Center). The number 320 on the map indicates how many new parking spaces will be added. Please find alternative parking until the new parking lot is completed in mid-October.
Our Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) no longer schedule appointments for lab draws. They are done on a walk-in basis only, like at the main campus. Our new Electronic Health Record (EHR) doesn't allow appointment scheduling for lab procedures. Only LPNs perform functions related to lab procedures. We are hiring more LPNs to reduce wait times for blood draws. Veterans needing labs that do not require fasting are encouraged to arrive later in the morning to minimize waiting.
This year’s Community Mental Health Summit will be held virtually and in person on campus in building 305 on September 2nd. See flyer to register and for more information.

Desmond Doss grew up believing the Ten Commandments were meant to be taken personally. When he read his Bible as a boy, “Thou shalt not kill” was more than scripture; it was an instruction.
Doss carried that conviction into his Army career, refusing to carry a weapon into combat and still becoming one of the most decorated medics in Army history.
