Where All Students Shine!
Dear Kings Park Families,
The first week of school was filled with learning, connection, and exciting new experiences. From composting in the cafeteria to using bus ID badges, students are embracing new routines while building independence and responsibility throughout the school day.
As we continue establishing routines, please follow staff directions and all arrival and dismissal procedures so we can ensure safe and smooth experiences for everyone. Our continued teamwork will help every student feel confident, capable, and ready to shine this year!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Dotty Lin, Mrs. Jenn Burke and Mrs. Anna Kaplan

Student ID Cards for Kings Park Bus Riders - Update
Student ID cards have been distributed to all our students who ride the school bus or use FCPS transportation services and were enrolled at Kings Park prior to the beginning of July. Students are successfully tapping their ID cards when boarding and exiting the bus. We are proud to see students embracing this new routine and taking responsibility for their ID cards.
The cards are attached to lanyards and should remain inside your child’s backpack each day. Students will be reminded to place the lanyard in their backpack when they arrive at school and to put it on before boarding the bus at dismissal. At this time, only students who use FCPS transportation services will receive an ID card.
Learn more about the bus navigation system and student ID cards.

Transportation Patience and Safety
Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following Kiss and Ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your child’s bus.
If your child’s bus is delayed, you may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Please contact the Transportation Office at 703-446-2050 with any additional questions. For concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact the FCPS Office of Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.
Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE to make sure you receive email messages about bus delays.
Parent Digital Consent - Complete Permission Forms for School Resources
Families can now grant consent for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. This online tool can be accessed using your SIS ParentVUE account login. Parents can opt their child in or out of a variety of resources, including online educational tools, school counseling services, and more.
Visit the Parent Digital Consent webpage to access the system. Watch this video to see how to use the tool.
Family Life Education Instructional Program Information
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve. Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.
Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms are available in Parent Digital Consent. Paper opt-out forms are available from your child’s school. Students receiving special education services and accessing modified curriculum will receive a printed opt-out form for modified FLE lessons.
Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online for Elementary (K-6). FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in Schoology. Parents/guardians login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account. Grade level-specific lessons are also available at the City of Fairfax Regional Library (this location does not have media). Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library. Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.
Program questions may be addressed at your child’s school or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or by email to fle@fcps.edu.
Now Hiring - Dining Room Assistant
Are you interested in making a meaningful impact during the school day? We are looking to fill the essential role of Dining Room Assistant at Kings Park. Work hours are 10:30am to 2:00pm, Monday through Friday when students are in attendance. Job responsibilities include assisting students during lunch, monitoring behavior, overseeing and participating in clean-up, etc.
If you are interested in becoming a Dining Room Assistant at Kings Park, contact Jenn Burke at jcburke@fcps.edu.
Labor Day
Friday, September 4, and Monday, September 7, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.
