Hi Klop, Last month I asked you to get your protein to 100 grams a day, and to stop letting breakfast and dinner coast. A lot of you did it. And then some of you wrote to tell me something else went sideways. Here is the deal. When protein goes up, something comes down — and for most women, it is the plants. Protein is dense and it is filling. You arrive at dinner already satisfied, and the vegetables quietly become optional. So let me tell you what almost everyone gets wrong about fiber. They think it is a bathroom issue. It is not. It is a metabolism issue. Fiber is one of the few things you eat that your body doesn’t digest. "Untouched" is a little absolute, and 100 trillion is an older estimate, so I’d suggest: “It passes through your small intestine largely undigested and reaches your colon…”, where trillions of bacteria are waiting for it. What they do with it is the part you should care about. Certain fibers are fermented by your gut bacteria, and what they make out of them moves your blood sugar, your appetite hormones, and the integrity of your gut lining.
