Suspect Arrested in Colonial Village CarjackingARLINGTON, Va. – The Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit is announcing the arrest of a suspect in a carjacking incident that occurred in the Colonial Village neighborhood on August 31, 2026. Leah Elaine Johnson, 26, of Washington, DC is charged with Carjacking by the Arlington County Police Department and with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and No Driver’s License by the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority Police Department. She is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility. At approximately 4:56 p.m. on August 31, police were dispatched to the 2100 block of 19th Street N. for the report of a larceny just occurred. Upon arrival, it was determined the victim was walking in the area when the suspect approached her from behind and attempted to engage her in conversation. The victim walked towards her vehicle and the suspect followed, made a threatening statement and demanded her keys. The suspect then stole the victim’s keys before entering her vehicle and fleeing the scene. On the afternoon of September 1, the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority Police Department observed the stolen vehicle, conducted a traffic stop and detained the suspect. During the course of the investigation, Arlington detectives linked the suspect to the August 31 carjacking and obtained the warrant for her arrest.
