The Wattage Argument I Keep Having
In his Sound Perspective column, Teddy Murphy (2024 Higher Ed AV Media Rising Star of the Year, HETMA Board of Directors) makes the case that amplifiers rated above a loudspeaker's continuous power rating, roughly 1.5 to 2 times, actually protect audio quality rather than risk it, since underpowered amps clip and distort under dynamic content.
