A Community for the Next Generation of College Leaders

The Chronicle is building a community for the next generation of college leaders. And we want you to be part of it.

Next Tuesday, September 8, we’ll send the first issue of a new weekly newsletter, Decision Points. This free newsletter is dedicated to helping aspiring leaders solve challenges and get things done on campus.

Decision Points Newsletter

In each issue, we’ll feature a campus leader making a decision. A dean restructuring an academic unit. A vice president advancing a major change in admissions strategy. A chief of staff and a director scaling up a work-force program in less than three months.

We’ll help you understand what drove each decision, who was consulted, and what lessons were learned. When possible, we’ll share early outcomes — both successes and ongoing challenges.

We know readers are busy, so we’ll cut to the chase in one skimmable package. Sign up now so you don’t miss our first issue next Tuesday

Get in early, and we'll have something extra for you: We’ll send you a free copy of The Essential Leadership Primer, an 86-page Chronicle article collection featuring our best reporting on some of the same issues we’ll explore in the newsletter.

Decision Points will also include timely analysis of the trends and issues shaping higher ed, expert voices on leadership development, features highlighting new positions and offices, and more. Often, we’ll ask you to contribute by responding to quick surveys and short-answer prompts. Your input will be vital to the conversation.

The Essential Leadership Primer

As we’ve gotten this newsletter off the ground, our journalists have talked with more than 20 current and former leaders to get a sense of what they’d find worth reading.

Our sources told us they wanted to know what their peers were doing about higher ed’s most universal challenges, such as tight budgets, demographic changes, and uncertainty about how to position institutions for the future. They wanted practical tips they could steal. They wanted to see leadership’s human side.

These leaders were also clear about what they did not want: a newsletter only telling them about how much higher education is struggling.

So Decision Points is not about turmoil. It’s about problem-solving. We’ll cover the difficult calls some leaders are making right now, examining the strategies behind them and unpacking the trade-offs.

Our first issue goes out on Tuesday, September 8. Don’t wait: Sign up for free today and start making more informed decisions.

Sincerely,

Sarah Brown
