Ernie Adams, the Patriots’ mad scientist during the Bill Belichick era, had to be told about the post whizzing across X on Tuesday and Wednesday that revealed one of their brilliant schemes from the Patriots’ dynasty days.
Adams was amused at the attention it got.
“If nothing else,” Adams said, “we are deep into other people’s heads many years later.”
The post came from Ryan Paganetti, a Bedford native and former analytics coach for the Eagles, Jaguars, and Raiders who recently went into consulting. He reviewed more than a decade of Patriots TV broadcasts, “and uncovered a diabolically clever piece of Patriots gamesmanship.” It took place when the opposition kicked field goals toward the closed end of Gillette Stadium.
