As the book manuscript deadline approaches, these newsletters will be a bit tighter.
I printed out my book
August 31st was the original deadline for the book. Now it's mid-September. But I wanted to hit August 31st with something written for the all the chapters, and I did!
I met that self-imposed goal and celebrated by spending the next four hours figuring out how to print out all the pages (including additional stories, phrasings, and ideas that are still trying to earn a place in this artifact). (By the way, I just wrote the most nasty support email to Wispr Flow because I used it to dictate the sentence above, and it foisted upon me five more horrible AI-generated sentences. I despise that so deeply I can't even tell you. Stop foisting these BS uses of AI upon us, Wispr Flow! And you're not even the worst offender here. No, Google Docs, I do not want you to "refine" my writing. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here. What dystopia.)
Okay, where was I?
Seeing this thick stack of papers that represent such an important part of my life was rewarding. Not overly rewarding, just slightly rewarding. It's a milestone. It shows that the book is real. But I have so much more to do in the next two weeks to make it the best book possible.
While the stack was cool, I found four old binders and my old industrial-grade three-hole punch contraption, and I put that puppy to good use. I purchased it for a TV production I was on as a PA when half my job seemed like it was printing paper and punching holes. Once the show ended, the Three Hole Punch needed a home, and ever since, it's been collecting dust inside of mine.
Using it this week was quite satisfying.

All four parts of the book in their own binder.
It's been good to edit my own writing by looking at it in physical form on physical pages that I can write notes on.
