Price the stream like a seat for the family who cannot travel, not like a product for neutrals.

You already know who watches your stream. Not the number on the dashboard, the people behind it: the mother who moved away for work, the grandfather in another time zone who stays up for a Saturday fixture.

Then you put a price on it, and you price it for strangers.

That is the argument running under every paywall thread this month. A Nebraska prep football account put it in one line on 5 September: "No neutral is going to pay $8.00 to watch your game." They're right, and they're being generous. A neutral won't pay eight dollars for your game. A neutral won't pay eighty cents. A neutral has a sofa, a phone, and no reason to care what happens in your town on a Friday night.

The people who will pay are the ones who would be in the building if the building weren't on the other side of the country. They aren't an audience. They're the empty seats.

So what is a seat worth to somebody who can't sit in it?

A priest said what his livestream cannot do

A priest posted on 6 September that a livestream helps if you're sick, traveling or working, and that it still isn't the same as being there. Under another thread that day, a joke about who would be left watching drew one honest reply, "Some of us have to stay back." Write your page for them, and don't sell it as the same thing.

Illegal streaming, costed at 1.35 billion pounds a year

Research by WPI Economics for BeStreamWise, published 1 September, puts the cost of illegal streaming to the UK economy at 1.35 billion pounds a year. There's no such thing as a piracy-proof stream, and nobody honest will sell you one. Once you charge for access, what you control is whether your own page is the easy one to find.

"Catch the livestream on our website, the app, or YouTube," SWX Montana posted at half time of Montana Tech against Carroll on 5 September. Caledonia SRN said the same day that it can feed Facebook and YouTube but not X. Simulcast if you must, but name one destination page in every fixture post, because that's where the replay lives afterwards.
