On Sunday, we learned that Trump has gone to the Supreme Court again to see if he can persuede them of his plans to meddle in the midterms. This is about his efforts to restrict mail-in ballots. States are already sending out ballots. Let’s see what they say this time.
Trump’s attempt to stop mail in voting has been blocked by a lower court judge. “U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani of the District of Massachusetts blocked Trump’s plan to use the United States Postal Service to screen mail-in voters. Referring to the final rule the USPS is trying to put into place, Talwani wrote: “Unauthorized by the Elections Clause, the Final Rule clashes with Congress’s statutory scheme, and is unconstitutional where it intrudes not only on Congress’s Elections Clause powers but also that power left to the States.””
He’s going ahead with building his grotesque monumental arch tribute to himself. Regulations and permits be damned, he’s starting because he wants to complete it all before he leaves office. I guess we should be grateful he’s thinking he will have to leave. The Atlantic has an article that gives one a measure of hope on how this could backfire as he’s “pushing the project forward without going through any of the required permitting or obeying the law that requires Congress to pass a law allowing another memorial in the protected area of Washington, D.C..”
There have been a few news items about how in some GOP races in the midterms, Trump is not welcome. Trump has decided to put on a convention in Dallas ahead of the midterms, something neither party has ever done before. I see this as a grand loyalty test on his part. Politico polled 70 GOP candidates: most are not going, citing prior commitments, many declined to share their plans. Others are balking at the five-figure-minimum fees to attend, which one House Republican granted anonymity to speak candidly said was a $25,000 minimum donation to the National Republican Congressional Committee.

I suggest you read today’s letter from Heather Cox Richardson to get an idea of the craziness of his manic postings, which I assume were done with the help of his aide Natalie Harp.
He is unhinged like never before, destroying our national monuments, our global reputation and all that we helped build in the world, harming people’s well-being while posting about himself repeatedly. Trump is a figurehead to a party that refuses to acknowledge his behavior. For the GOP, Trump is something to be tolerated—like a village idiot or grotesque entertainment— while they ride his diminishing popularity to more power and money. I keep hoping more of them will resist and run away, but so far they haven’t. It makes me sad about humanity that so many are blatantly enabling Trump.
