What Sunday Told Us

Well that was an awesome day of football. We waited a long time for an NFL Sunday and it did not disappoint, with a flurry of points and six exciting one-score finishes. Each Monday, we’ll take a look around the league and analyze some of the biggest takeaways from the weekend. Let’s dig into what we saw in Week 1.

CHI 59 – CAR 37

Holy Points Explosion!

So much for Week 1 unders! Overs went 9-4, the best opening Sunday since 2015. We saw a record average total of 53.3 PPG with games of 60, 61, 61, 64, 67… and 96 points! The Bears crushed the Panthers 59-37 in the highest scoring Week 1 game in history. On a day where 16 players scored multiple TDs, our Gilles Gallant hit 11 plus-money TDs in his column, racking up +25 units and 103% ROI!

ARI 26 – LAC 14

Huge Upset in the Cards

Arizona shocked Los Angeles 26-14, taking down the Chargers in the biggest Week 1 upset since 2018. The Cardinals were 9.5-point underdogs, and their win knocked out 25% of all entries in the DraftKings survivor contest! The Giants and Jets were also victorious as dogs, the first time both New York squads won their openers since 2009. The Saints and Commanders were late 2-point conversions away from upsets too!

MIN 39 – GB 22

Injuries Already a Story

Kyler Murray’s debut ended early with a concussion, but Carson Wentz led the Vikings to a shocking turnaround 39-22 win over the Packers. WRs Zay Flowers and Ladd McConkey were terrific before exiting with injuries that could mean missed time. Sam Darnold, A.J. Brown, and Brock Bowers are already out. And the biggest injury Sunday came before the games, as reigning DPOY Myles Garrett hit the Rams IR after knee surgery.

BUF 36 – TEX 31

Bills vs Texans as Great as Advertised

This felt like a playoff game, with almost 800 yards of offense and a wild finish. Josh Allen nearly threw an interception late, then hit Josh Palmer the very next play for the winning TD. Buffalo’s offense was awesome with a 21% explosive play rate, highest allowed by Houston in the DeMeco Ryans era, and almost 8 yards a play. An MVP performance for Josh Allen against one of the league’s finest defenses – and perhaps a playoff preview?

AFC WINS ROUND 1

Score Round 1 for the AFC

It wasn’t just the Bills looking great on Sunday. The Ravens, Bengals, and Jaguars also had huge scoring days, making it clear the AFC has come to play. That’s in stark contrast to the NFC, where the Eagles were lucky to escape with a win while the Cowboys and Packers took Ls, after the Rams and Seahawks already disappointed earlier in Week 1. There was plenty of offseason talk about the wide-open AFC. Do we have our early contenders?
