More active substance/product type combinations meet the requirements for expiry date postponements until 31 July 2031.
HSE provided information about the Chemicals (Health and Safety) (Amendment, Consequential and Transitional Provision) Regulations 2026, which postpone the expiry dates for up to 173 active substance/product type combinations, in a previous ebulletin.
The active substance/product type combinations are postponed providing a renewal application has been submitted and accepted.
A valid renewal application has now been submitted for the following active substance/product type combination:
From 28 February 2028 to 31 July 2031
- citric acid (CAS 77-92-9 EC 201-069-1) in product type 2
If you want to supply new biocidal products containing this active substance, you can still apply for GB Biocidal Products Regulation (GB BPR) product authorisation. New products (including new trade names) must not be supplied in GB until product authorisation is granted.
HSE will provide separate updates, as appropriate, on renewal decisions and any subsequent extensions to expiry dates covered by these Regulations.
Stakeholders should note that biocides are in scope of the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement currently being negotiated between the UK and the EU. Once negotiations on the SPS Agreement have concluded, HSE will communicate further on any implications the Agreement has for the sector.
