Trump Administration Announces $74 Million to Expand Specialty, Maternal, and Behavioral Healthcare Across Rural New Mexico
This federal investment will establish regional hubs to bring more high-quality care closer to rural, frontier and Tribal communities
The Trump Administration announced today that a $74 million investment is being delivered to improve access to healthcare for New Mexicans through the federal Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP). This investment will support six Regional Hub Organizations lead Healthy Horizons, one part of New Mexico's five-year RHTP strategy that supports better access to specialty, maternal, behavioral health, chronic disease, and other health care services in rural, frontier, and tribal communities. The Regional Hub Organizations will begin this work by coordinating with local providers and community partners to identify needs, set priorities, and develop plans that bring specialty, maternal, behavioral health, and other health care services closer to home for rural New Mexicans.

Kennedy, Jr. “We are putting resources directly into rural communities to strengthen the health workforce, modernize infrastructure, expand access, and bring care closer to home. We are giving states the flexibility to build solutions around the people they serve, while demanding accountability for results. That is how we strengthen rural health, improve the lives of patients and families, and Make America Healthy Again.”
“President Trump made a historic commitment to rural America, and these investments are turning that commitment into better care for patients in communities across New Mexico,” said Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz. “This is what rural health transformation should look like: federal investment that is putting patients first, driving lasting improvements and expanding healthcare for the hardworking Americans who call these communities home.”
Today’s investment was made possible through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act — passed by Republicans in Congress and unanimously opposed by Democrats — delivering a historic $50 billion investment to help states transform the way healthcare is delivered in America.
New Mexico's broader RHTP strategy supports rural, frontier, and Tribal healthcare access through initiatives focused on specialty and chronic disease care, workforce development, technology and data, locally driven innovation, and rural provider sustainability.
Today’s announcement is one part of the larger overall funding amount awarded to New Mexico for fiscal year 2026.
Projects the larger overall RHTP funding will help support include:

Expanding specialty and chronic disease care: Using in-person care, telehealth, e-consults, and remote patient monitoring to strengthen specialty, maternal, behavioral health, and chronic disease services and bring more care closer to rural and Tribal communities.

Building the rural healthcare workforce: Supporting recruitment, training, career pathways, and retention strategies to strengthen the healthcare workforce serving rural, frontier, and Tribal communities.

Advancing technology and data: Expanding remote care tools and building secure health data and analytics capabilities to improve care coordination, support providers, and strengthen healthcare delivery.

Strengthening rural healthcare sustainability: Supporting rural providers and locally driven innovation to improve operations, build regional partnerships, and develop sustainable approaches tailored to community needs.
The Trump Administration is delivering on its commitment to strengthen rural America by investing in solutions that modernize technology to promote health and well-being for rural communities. Led by CMS, the RHTP is moving beyond the failed one-size-fits-all approach and giving rural communities the tools to build stronger, more innovative, and more sustainable health systems that deliver better care and better outcomes for the Americans they serve.
