As of September 18, the cyanobacteria bloom is present from Stony Point, MI to Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, OH. The bloom extends into the western basin to West Sister Island Wildlife Refuge, OH. Clouds have obscured the bloom, and may continue to do so until Thursday. Strong winds over the next few days will reduce risk of scum formation. The highest cyanobacteria concentrations are in Maumee Bay and off the MI coast as far north as Monroe.
This bulletin provides a summary and forecast of the Microcystis harmful algal blooms (HABs) in western Lake Erie. Updates will be e-mailed to subscribers with important information regarding bloom status and significant features.
