Arlington County is conductingtwo simultaneous studies of Carlin Springs Road and wants your input on your experiences and challenges you face while traveling on Carlin Springs Road.
The study areas are divided into north and south.
- South: from the County line/8th Street South to Arlington Boulevard
- North: from Arlington Boulevard to North Wakefield Street
What will Arlington do with this feedback?
The studies will help the County staff develop recommendations and concepts for projects to improve the safety and comfort of people who travel on Carlin Springs Road, whether on foot, by bike, bus or driving.
How can I participate?
Attend the open house on Tuesday, October 6 at Kenmore Middle School or share your experiences through the online feedback form through October 20. Learn more on the study page.

Move snow, get out the way.
When snow season hits, some of our most vulnerable neighbors may not be able to clear snow from in front of their homes, which can prevent them and other people from being able to walk the sidewalks safely.
You can make a meaningful difference this winter through the pilot Snow Buddies Program. Volunteers will be paired with neighbors who are older adults or homebound to help with snow removal efforts.

Today many counties and cities around the US recognize Car-Free Day as a day to encourage people to get around on foot, by bike, or by transit. If you’re reading this newsletter (thank you, by the way), you may already live car-free or car-lite in Arlington, so today we want to offer you a new challenge – observe Car-Free Day with a friend.
So, like a CFD Party?
Yeah! Pick an easy destination like an errand or a treat near by to practice going car-free.
Start small like inviting your friend to join you on your bus ride to the grocery store, or walk to a library or farmers market together. Ride your bikes or check out Capital Bikeshare bikes to go to a neighborhood park or dinner plans.
Does your friend have a registered SmarTrip card to get discounted transfers between bus routes and Metro? Check in to see that they’re all set up, then use their favorite navigation app on their phone to go somewhere fun by bus or train. Conserve the memory with a selfie.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) advises motorists and pedestrians that as of September 21, 2026, Ramps to Route 50 westbound and to George Washington Memorial Parkway northbound, as well as the pedestrian trail crossing the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge, are closed as the project enters its next phase of construction. Mainline I-66 will remain open to traffic.
