Dear Families,

Thank you to everyone and our PTA for support during our Fun Run! The weather held out, it was a great experience for our students, and raised funds to support our PTA.

Please join us tonight for our first PTA meeting at 7:00 PM in the Union Mill cafeteria!

This is a great opportunity to meet the PTA Board, connect with other families, and learn more about what’s ahead for our school community. During this evening's Principal Report, we will also share updates for the year and celebrations connected to student success.

Childcare will be provided by the CVHS Student Government Association.

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Astronaut Karen Nyberg will kick off the launch of her book with an interactive program and story time on September 26th at the National Children's Museum at 10:00 AM. Additional details below.

National Hispanic Heritage Month

From September 15 to October 15, FCPS recognizes and celebrates the histories and cultures of the members of our community who trace their heritage to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Virtual Author Visit

On Friday, Mrs. Lins’ first grade class attended a live virtual author visit with author Johanna Ho and illustrator Amber Ren. Ms. Ho read us the book, "Becoming Boba" and Ms. Ren lead the class in a drawing lesson to draw the main character, Mindy (who is a fruity boba tea). We also learned a little about the history of milk tea and boba tea. We got to interact with the author and illustrator, answer true/false questions, and ask a question of our own!

Meet an Author and an Astronaut

Here’s a chance to meet an author and an astronaut, too! Meet local author, Ann McCallum and her new book, "A Quilt of Stars, Astronaut Karen Nyberg Stitches a Dream". All four events are free. Check out A Quilt of Stars Book Trailer that connect you to a various space photos from Karen Nyberg's personal collection with the original theme song.

Wednesday, October 7th!

Join in the fun and help the environment. All students who walk, bike, or roll (scooters, rollerblades, etc.) will receive a small token at either side of the bus loop. Please remember to wear your helmet!

Those students, as well as students who walk to their bus stop and then ride to school, will be invited to sign a paper leaf in their classrooms. We will have a huge pile of leaves in the gym showing off our exercise and eco-minded students. Please contact Jenny Murray at jbmurray@fcps.edu if you have any questions.

UMES Library - Cake Pan Checkout

Did you know your student can check out a cake pan from the UMES library just like a book? Pans for baking may be checked out for three weeks and we ask that they are washed and clean prior to returning them. They are located next to the cookbooks! We also accept donations of metal cake pans. The picture here is just a small sample of the many pans available to your student!
