Celebrate the vibrant history, culture and diversity of the Hispanic community during Hispanic Heritage Month at our libraries. Weekend events include:

• Grupo Fénix: Live Mariachi Performance at Multiple Branches
• Baile Folklórico at City of Fairfax Regional Library
• Create Your Own Alebrije at Martha Washington Library in Alexandria

Don’t forget to participate in the Library’s Hispanic Heritage Month Reading Adventure.

Weekend-Long Events

Mosaic Fall Fest

Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Visit the Mosaic District this weekend for its annual Fall Fest. Shop from over 90 handmade and vintage vendors, watch special performances and enjoy an array of activities for the entire family.

Empty the Shelters

Friday - Sunday, Hours Vary

All pet adoptions fees will be waived this weekend at Animal Service's Lorton Campus. We’re thrilled to partner with the BISSELL Pet Foundation again for this tail-wagging event.

Friday, Sept. 25 Events

Campfire Night Hike - Predators at Night (7 - 8:30 p.m.) Enjoy a night hike to learn about nocturnal hunters at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park in Chantilly. Listen to calls of owls and coyotes and try to catch a glimpse of them in the forest. End the evening with s'mores around the campfire. Registration is $12.

Fall Book Sales (Hours Vary)

Come shop a large selection of books, DVDs, CDs and more for all ages at our Reston Regional, George Mason Regional and Burke Centre library branches. Proceeds benefit library programs.

Child and Me Yoga (10:30 - 11 a.m.)

Uses stories, songs and poses to practice techniques for breathing, moving and relaxing with your child at Martha Washington Library in Alexandria. Please bring a yoga mat or beach towel.

Campfire Fridays (7 - 8:30 p.m.)

Join us for an evening campfire at the Hidden Pond Nature Center in Springfield. Explore nature through walks, interactive activities and animal presentations. End the evening with s'mores. Registration is $12.

Saturday, Sept. 26 Events

Bug Fest (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.) Celebrate the amazing world of insects at Lake Accotink Park in Springfield. Learn why these fascinating critters are important to maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Activities include insect safari hikes, live insect meet and greets, crafts, games, bug-themed storybook reading, a buggy maze and a spiderweb slackline course.

Celebrate National Public Lands Day (Times Vary)

Celebrate National Public Lands Day by participating in a wide selection of service opportunities to protect the natural, cultural and recreational resources of our parks. 

Harvest Happenings (10 a.m. - noon)

Celebrate the magic of autumn with your family at the McLean Community Center. Enjoy live entertainment, crafts, interactive games and a petting zoo. Pick out the perfect pumpkin to decorate and take home.

Nature Walk with a Police Officer (1 - 2 p.m.)

Join a naturalist and an officer and explore the nature trail at Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Annandale. We'll roll logs, search the forest floor and learn about safety while being a nature detective.

Fall Tea Party (1 - 2:30 p.m.)

Bring your child to the Colvin Run Mill in Great Falls and celebrate the start of fall. We’ll have tea, savory and sweet treats and play 19th century games. Registration is $20.

Backyard Beekeeping (1 - 2:30 p.m.)

Learn all about beehives in this hands-on program at Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library. Explore the parts of a deconstructed hive, discover the lives of the bees inside, see a beekeeper’s clothing and tools, and get tips for starting a backyard hive.

Chuseok Paper Crafts (2 - 3 p.m.)

Join us at Thomas Jefferson Library in Falls Church, and learn how to make a paper fan and purse in celebration of Chuseok (추석), Korea's mid-autumn harvest festival.

Folklore and Campfire (7 - 8 p.m.)

Cozy up around a campfire under the stars at the Colvin Run Mill in Great Falls. Learn folktales that celebrate American culture, customs and diversity. Finish the evening with toasting marshmallows. Registration is $10.
