In October 2017, my mom was diagnosed with cancer. I wanted to preserve her stories, so I bought her one of those write-your-own-memoir books.
She handed it straight back.
“Writing feels like homework.”
I’d given her a way to preserve her life that left her staring at a blank page.
So I started asking her questions instead.
She talked. I listened. We laughed. The stories I’d hoped she would write began coming out in conversation. And hearing her tell them became as meaningful to me as the stories themselves.
That experience became the foundation for Remento.
